10 Years of Counter-Marketing

Indiana is moving closer to becoming a tobacco-free state. Over the past decade there has been tremendous progress. Today, there are 258,000 fewer youth and adult smokers in Indiana and those who still smoke are smoking less. Because of these declines Indiana will save billions in future health care costs.

Best of all, this tremendous work and progress is done without any state tax dollars. These life saving services are funded by the Master Settlement Agreement between Indiana and the tobacco industry. State and local programs help smokers quit and discourage teens from ever starting

Celebrating Ten Years of Working for a Tobacco Free Indiana

Indiana Tobacco Prevention and Cessation's vision is to significantly improve the health of Hoosiers and to reduce the disease and economic burden that tobacco use places on Hoosiers of all ages.

In 2000, Indiana lawmakers took a courageous first step to address Indiana’s high smoking rate. Representative Charlie Brown and Senator Larry Borst authored a bill and the late Governor O’Bannon signed Senate Enrolled Act 108 into law.
